Obituary of Sharon A. Sauer

Rensselaer-Heaven gained another angel as Sharon A. Poole Sauer, passed away peacefully in her home on December 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Sharon was born in Albany in May of 1953 to Thomas Poole, Sr. and Agnes Farrell and lived in Rensselaer her entire life.  She married the love of her life Boyce ‘Buzz’ Sauer in May of 1980, and raised two loving daughters, Jennifer Sauer-Lyon and Jamie Sauer-Falls.

Sharon graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1972 (last graduating class) and briefly attended Hudson Valley Community College.  She then began to work for New York State in the Department of AG and Markets. After she left NYS, Sharon enjoyed a lengthy career as a senior clerk for the Rensselaer Police Department, where she made many lifetime friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Sauer-Lyon of Rensselaer and Jamie Sauer-Falls (Bobby) of Nassau, her grandchildren, Brezney Lyon, Caleb Sauer, Madison Burnett and great-grandson Jaxon Albright; her brothers, Thomas (Marilyn) Poole of Castleton, James (Barbara) Poole of East Greenbush, Michael (Susan) Poole of Red Rock and Steven (Angela) Poole of Rensselaer and a brother-in-law Gustave Sauer of Rome, NY.  She will be missed by her beloved dog, Gracie.  Sharon is also survived by an aunt & uncle, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents, Sharon is predeceased by her husband, Boyce ‘Buzz’ Sauer and her son-in-law Charles Lyon.

Sharon was truly an angel on earth. She will be most remembered by the loving care she gave to her mother and best friend in her final years and by the kindness with which she treated all.  She loved her crossword puzzles, Hallmark movies (especially Christmas) and her Dunkin Donuts coffee and iced tea. Most of all, she loved spending the holidays with her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to call to the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, NY on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 4-7 pm.  A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 10 am. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
