East Greenbush- William A. Bottachiari, age 86, passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 3, 1940, in Albany to the late William J. Bottachiari and Frances Sgroi Bottachiari.
Bill was raised in Ravena and graduated from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. He continued his education at Albany Business College and later earned a degree from Empire State College. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard for six years.
Bill began his professional career with the New York State Department of Tax and Finance, where he met the love of his life, Dolores Ann Casatelli. The two were married on September 26, 1964, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than six decades.
After his time with the Department of Tax and Finance, Bill embarked on a distinguished career with the Capital Police Department in Albany, rising to the rank of Captain. Over more than 30 years of dedicated service, he worked under numerous New York State governors, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike through his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to public service.
Outside of his career, Bill embraced life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and horse racing, and he was a devoted sports fan who faithfully followed the New York Yankees and the Miami Dolphins. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and his grandchildren, Jake and Cole.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Marcia Bottachiari.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores Ann Bottachiari; his children, Michael W. Bottachiari, Frank J. (Denise) Bottachiari, and Michele R. (Joseph) Beaver; his cherished grandchildren, Jake and Cole Beaver, whom he adored; his sister, Patricia Bottachiari; his niece Irene, his nephew Ryan (Amy), and his niece and goddaughter, Jennifer. He is also survived by his beloved granddog, Piper.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill's family from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on what would have been Bill's 86th Birthday, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at St. Henry's Church, 39 Old Route 66 Averill Park, NY 12018. Bill's Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m., at the church. Interment will immediately follow the mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the American Lung Association.
