It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Wayne Phillip McGlynn. He was lovingly surrounded in his home by his family when he passed on October 14, 2026. Some may have known him by Wayne, others as Wayne-O, Uncle Wayne, but most of us affectionately knew him as Pop or Dad. No matter what you called him, it reflected how you knew him, as his personality and presence were deeply felt.
Wayne could seemingly be summed up with one meaningful word: Dedicated.
He was dedicated on every level to what he loved: his wife, his family, his lake crew, his hobbies, his clam dip, and his great love for giving to others.
Wayne was a dedicated husband for 56 years to his beautiful wife, Laura, who sadly took a piece of his heart when she passed in January of 2025. We take solace in knowing they're together again.
Wayne is survived by his loving children: Jeffory McGlynn, Christa McGlynn Strunk, and Cara Anne Oboyski. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Melissa King McGlynn and his sons-in-law, Bob Strunk and Christopher Oboyski. Wayne's memory will be cherished by his grandchildren: Morgan McGlynn, Daniel McGlynn, Elise Oboyski, Madelyn McGlynn, Hadley Oboyski, Cian Strunk, and James Paul Oboyski. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Alberta McGlynn, and his brother Jim McGlynn (Jane) and survived by his brother and sisters: Ned McGlynn (Lois), Sharon Crotty (John), and Katelyn Francken (Michael).
Wayne also exhibited strong generational strength and dedication by caring for his mother Alberta McGlynn, alongside his siblings until her passing in 2014, and he maintained a strong bond with his siblings throughout his life. He always looked forward to the many family gatherings, theatre outings, and countless card games throughout the years. He adored his family.
He had great respect, appreciation and love for Laura's side of the family: His in-laws, Jim and Bettylou Northrop (both deceased), and their children. Laura's siblings: Jaimie Northrop (Terry), Debbie Riley (deceased) (Michael), and Kim Northrop (w/partner Nick).
"Uncle Wayne" is survived by sixteen nieces and nephews who created strong branches on the family tree he proudly reflected upon: Patrick McGlynn & Kevin McGlynn, Jason Ramirez & Mikey Riley, Kerry Hasselbach, Kelly Ferjentsik & Shay McGlynn, JB Northrop, Kyle Northrop & Brittany Thomas, Jenna Catherine Perrelli & Christian Perrelli, Brynn Roche & Shannon Blizinski, and Miles Francken & Jenny Francken.
Wayne proudly held our Burden Lake Family very dear to his heart. He cherished enjoying summers with his aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members across decades and looked forward to returning each and every year. The togetherness, tradition and memories meant so much to Mom and Dad and will continue to be an important part of our lives.
Dedication and unconditional love were his fuel.
In his professional life, Wayne retired as a proud employee of NYS OGS. He also retired from his role in the Federal Government which additionally included 30 years as an Army Reserve member.
Throughout his years, Wayne was often known as the tech guy in each of his groups, and he proudly provided support in this fashion to his friends and family.
Wayne always made sure a batch of his famous clam dip was on hand for all gatherings, eagerly enjoying people's anticipation for it.
He loved to garner a chuckle by sharing his favorite memes and sharing links to recipes or anything else notable he thought you'd enjoy.
Like his father before him, Wayne had a place and method for everything. He had a gadget for every occasion, loved showing them off and often had one ready to give you when he saw your interest.
One of his favorite things to do was sit by the fire with family and friends, snuggled in his chair soaking in everyone's joy. Whether it was at the lake or in his daughter's yard, it was the place to be. He envisioned a similar setup at home and was planning it until the end. The fire will always spark with thoughts of him snuggled up and close by.
Wayne had a good heart and will be sorely missed by all.
