North Greenbush - Theodore "Ted" Williams passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Ted was born in New Lebanon to parents Adelbert A. Williams and Anna Hoffman.
Ted graduated from Columbia High School in 1947. His last job before joining the military was driving oil trucks for M.H. Malony Oil Company of Rensselaer. Ted entered the military during the Korean War in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of corporal.
Following his military service Ted went on to work at the former State Teachers College, now known as SUNY Albany. He retired in 1993 after thirty eight years working as an electrician.
Ted was an avid hunter and square dance caller. He was very active in scouting; serving the scouting community as Scoutmaster 529, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Cubmaster for pack 525. Ted was also an active bowler. He served as a member and president of Hi-Way Tuesday Niters for many years. Ted was also active in little league as a coach and manager.
In 1948, Ted joined the Defreestville Fire Department. He served as vice president and president for two years. He additionally served as captain of the rescue squad. Ted remained active at the firehouse during all his following years.
Ted and Lourdes fell in love at first sight. They were happily married for 56 years prior to her passing.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, and his siblings; Francis (Elisa), Adelbert (Sadie), Horace (Elaine), and Rita Ann Williams.
Ted is survived by his beloved children; Randy (Diane) Williams and Kimberly (David Sr.) DeVoe; his adored grandchildren, David Jr. and Jessica DeVoe, Casey Lynn, Shelby Danielle and Dayne Thomas Williams; and his cherished great grandchildren, Samson DeVoe and Maci Coonradt.
He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his friends at Cracker Barrel.
Family and friends are invited to visit with Ted's family on Tuesday August 4th, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer NY. Ted's funeral mass will be held Wednesday August 5th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle, 43 Brookside Ave, Wynantskill, NY 12198. Interment will immediately follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Stephentown.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Ted's name may be made to the Defreestville Fire Department: 350 North Greenbush Road, Troy NY 12180.
