Listen to Obituary

Nassau – Theodore N. "Ted" Laurange, 85, passed away on June 29, 2026, following a long illness. Born in Hudson, Ted was the son of the late Herbert and Madeline (Smith) Laurange. He spent most of his life in Nassau and Kinderhook.

Ted proudly served his country in the United States Army during the 1960s as a helicopter mechanic and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge. Following his military service, he continued his career as a mechanic and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.

Ted had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and the arts. He enjoyed painting landscapes and portraits. He loved spending time on the golf course and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his happiest moments were spent fishing alongside his childhood best friend of more than 60 years, Danny Warner, whom he dearly missed following Danny's passing.

A fan of all things fast, Ted had a special appreciation for classic cars, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. In his later years, Ted devoted his time to building model war fighter planes and helicopters. He spent hours meticulously painting with the tiniest brushes. He also enjoyed watching westerns, martial arts, and war films.

Ted will be remembered for his eccentric, creative, sarcastic, and brutally honest ways, as well as for his great sense of humor.

Ted is survived by his children, Theodore N. Laurange Jr. and Yvonne M. Cairns; his grandchildren, Tyler Laurange, Riley Cairns, Cole Cairns, and Aiden Laurange; his devoted brother, James "Jimmy" Laurange, whose companionship and care meant so much to Ted throughout his later years; his niece, Tammy Laurange and his nephew, Scott Laurange.

Services will be celebrated privately at the convenience of Ted's family and friends.
