Albany-Werner, Sister Julia Mary aka Margaret, died peacefully on August 29,2026 at the Convent of Mercy in Albany. Sister was the daughter of the late Julia Daubney Werner and George A Werner. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament School, Albany, St. John's Academy, (valedictorian) Rensselaer, she received an AAS from Maria College, Albany (valedictorian), a BA from Assumption College, Worcester, MA and an MA from Providence College, Providence RI.
Jule was an excellent teacher, students in St Margaret Mary's, Albany, Annunciation School in Ilion, NY, St. Teresa of Avila, Albany, and Mercy High School, Albany all benefited from her expertise. She was able to challenge the more gifted students and work tirelessly with those who found math a struggle.
Sister Jule transitioned to parish ministry when she moved to St Joseph's Parish in Rensselaer as the parish administrator. In addition to her excellent management skills, she introduced parishioners to bible study, parish retreats and community activities. She is known far and wide for her "Advent Wreath Pins" which she and a faithful group of parishioners gathered weekly to meticulously craft. The pins, which literally traveled around the world, were sold to help support the parish school and remind the wearers to stay in the spirit of Advent.
Sister Jule moved on to join the pastoral care team at St. Peter's Hospital as secretary. Her organizational skills, attention to detail and concern for each individual, were put to good use.
When Sister Jule "retired" from St. Peter's she volunteered in the Administration office at the Convent of Mercy where every program was proofread, corrected, if necessary, all calls were returned promptly and there was always a smiling face and helpful hand in the office. Jule loved being outdoors, tending to her beautiful flower garden and watching the birds, that she overfed regularly. She was a beautiful swimmer and an avid walker.
Jule loved giving retreats. She was creative and insightful in the way he shared the scriptures with people. She did retreat days, retreat weeks and afternoons of reflection. It was a gift she shared generously and joyfully.
Sister Julia Mary was predeceased by her sister Mary Tindale, and her husband, Bill. She is survived by her sister Ellen J Werner, and nephew and niece, Bill Tindale, his wife Nancie and sons Noah and Micah and her niece Kathleen Kane, her husband Ryan and their daughters Abby and Natalie. She is also survived by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. We are most grateful to the staff at the Convent of Mercy and Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Sister Jule during her illness.
