East Greenbush – Robert G. Berry, 74, of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Van Rensselaer Manor, surrounded by his loving family, following complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in 1951, Robert was the son of the late Robert G. Berry Sr. and Marilyn (Rodford) Berry. A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, he was raised in Rensselaer before making his home in East Greenbush with his beloved wife, Kathleen.
Robert was educated in the Rensselaer public school system and went on to serve the State of New York with dedication for many years. He worked as a clerk and later as a process server before retiring from the New York State Department of Transportation. He was also a proud volunteer firefighter with the James Hill Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
Robert had a great love for travel and RVing. He was known for his warm personality, sense of humor, and love of people. He especially enjoyed relaxing with a beer and good conversation.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Kathleen (Walsh) Berry; his cherished son, Robert G. Berry III; and his adored grandchildren, Madison Berry and Zachary Berry. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Mary Lou (Rodford) Malatesta, along with many other loving cousins, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother, John Berry, and his cousin, Ronald Rodford.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at New Rural Cemetery, East Greenbush.
