February 8, 1989 — October 9, 2026

Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Richard Mathew Berhaupt III, "Ricky," age 37, who passed away at his home in Duanesburg. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, friendship, and love that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Ricky was born on February 8, 1989, in Albany, New York, to his loving parents, Richard Matthew Berhaupt Jr. and Michelle (Johnson) Berhaupt.

From a young age, Ricky understood the value of hard work. He began his first job at a local corner store at just 13 years old; a work ethic that would stay with him throughout his life. At 18, he began working for the New York State Thruway Authority. Little did he know that an ordinary stop along his daily routine would lead to one of the most important relationships of his life. Each night before work, Ricky stopped at the same gas station, where he would talk with the same girl. That girl, Amanda, would eventually become his wife and the mother of their five children.

Ricky later joined Pepsi-Cola, where he received training to earn his commercial driver's license (CDL). He went on to drive for several companies, most recently the Golub Corporation. Over time, trucking became more than a profession; it became a true passion. Through his dedication and determination, Ricky worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

Ricky was a devoted husband and father, and he took great pride in caring for and providing for Amanda and their five children. Ricky always kept the needs of his family at the forefront of his decisions. One of his proudest accomplishments came last year when he purchased their dream home: a five-bedroom house on five acres of land, chosen with purpose. That purpose was to give his children room to run, grow, play, and make memories of their own. This house was the beginning of the life he and Amanda always envisioned for their family.

In his freetime, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, playing guitar, drawing, and spending time at the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club. He was also proud of his Challenger SRT Widebody Scat Pack and cherished time spent with his parents and brothers. Whether through music, art, time outdoors, or simply being with the people closest to him, Ricky found ways to create lasting memories with those he loved.

Ricky will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his patriotism, and the love he poured into building a life for his children. Though his time on Earth was cut much too short, the joy he brought to those around him will be everlasting.

Ricky is survived by his beloved wife, Amanda (Bishop) Berhaupt; his five children, Alexis, Ricky IV, Timothy Joseph "TJ," Aaron, and James; his parents, Richard Jr. and Michelle; his brothers, Kenneth and Thomas (Ashley); and his niece, Emberlee.
