RENSSELAER - Paul W. Shimko, age 71, of Broadway, went home to the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Evergreen Commons Nursing Center. He was born in Albany on June 15, 1953, to the late Mary J. and George A. Shimko.
Paul served as the president of the Rensselaer volunteer ambulance in addition to working as a transportation specialist for over 40 years in the Albany region. He took pride in his work, prioritizing safety and lifting spirits with his humor and warmth. Paul will be remembered as a simple man who enjoyed his connection with family, pets, and faith.
Paul is survived by a daughter, Patricia Shimko; grandson, Aiden Shimko; nieces and nephews, Shortee and Kevin Northrup, Kyleigh Bishop, Tyler Bishop and his son Alessio, Marissa (Facteau) Bowie and her sons John Jr. and Owen, Jamison Facteau and his children Emily, Abbigail, Jackson, and Charlotte.
Along with his parents, Paul is predeceased by his sister, Nancy (Facteau) Stuto and a grand nephew, Athilo Bishop.
Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 11am-12pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral home service will follow at 12 pm, with burial to take place immediately afterward at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
