Rensselaer - Paul Raymond Carey, a lifelong resident of Rensselaer, N.Y., passed away peacefully, and on his own terms, on October 26, 2026.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Paul's love of the outdoors was surpassed only by his love for his daughter, Emily, his pride and joy. The two of them had a special relationship, and they were blessed to have each other.

Paul had a large circle of friends, family and supporters. He will be remembered for his loyalty, great storytelling, and his sense of humor. A carpenter by trade, his hard work and fine craftsmanship can be found all over the area and across the state.

Paul was the son of the late Raymond Eugene and Caroline Theresa Carey. He is survived by his daughter, Emily Theresa; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennifer (William) Simpson, Kathleen (John) Curran, Elizabeth (George) Terry, Margaret (Stephen) Mann and Mary (Thomas) Quinlan; nieces and nephews, Jaclyn (Gleason) Russo, Gena Russo, Joshua (Alexandra) Terry, Samantha Terry, Molly and Michael Mann and Evelyn and Nora Quinlan; aunts and numerous cousins; as well as Emily's siblings, Ashley and John Breda and Samantha Clement; and Emily's nieces, Charley and Brynley Breda, all for whom he cared.

Paul's family would like to especially thank John and Paul Bonacquisti, for their lifelong friendship, and the Bonacquisti Brothers Construction employees, for their generosity.
Per Paul's request, services will be private. The family encourages stories of Paul to be shared on the memorial page.

Contributions may be made in Paul's memory to the American Cancer Society, Friends of Recovery-New York, and the Capital District Humane Association.

"So don't cry for me because life is done
Stalking the fields has just begun
Come fall may smiles adorn your face
Knowing I've gone hunting in a better place."
