Rensselaer-Michael C. Ganance, Sr., passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Ruth (Hutchinson) and Hazen R. Ganance.
Michael proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968. Following his military service, he worked for forty years as a chemical operator at Sterling Winthrop.
Michael deeply loved his wife, Debbie, and cherished the life they built together. He especially treasured family vacations to Cape Hatteras, where many knew him as "NY Mike"; and to Treasure Island, where countless special memories were made. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Michael always made time for his close-knit group of friends, lovingly known as the "Garage Guys."
Above all, Michael's greatest joy was his family, especially his five grandchildren, who were the center of his world. They brought him endless pride, love, and happiness, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah (Schneider) Ganance; his children, Kristy Ganance (Rob), Nicole Bizzarro (Eddie), and Michael Ganance Jr. (James); his brothers, Dennis and Ronald Ganance; and his adored grandchildren, Edward, Cooper, and Helena Bizzarro, Brynnlee Harnish, and Westlyn Murray. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother, Robert "Bob" Ganance.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Skory and Denise Beebe for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to visit with Michael's family on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00- 4:00 p.m., at the W.J Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer.
Burial with military honors will be rendered on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
In honor of Michael, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
