East Greenbush - Mary Jean (Berigan) “Jean” Van Voris, 93, passed away at Troy’s Samaritan Hospital on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Jean was born in Utica, and lived there as a young girl before moving with her family to Rensselaer. She graduated from St. John’s Academy, where she was a cheerleader, and where she made many dear, lifelong friends. Jean had a special place in her heart for St. John’s and in her later years attended Mass there every Sunday. She worked as a secretary, including for the Huyck Felt Co. and in the New York State Nurses Association Library. Jean was married to Gerald R. “Jerry” Van Voris for 50 years, until his death in 2008. They raised two boys in Guilderland before moving to East Greenbush for their retirement years. She was immensely proud of her family, particularly her two grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her sister, Beatrice “Betty” Van Wormer, and brother, John “Jack” Berigan; her sons, Robert (Pamela) Van Voris of New York City, and John (Jody) Van Voris of Delmar; granddaughter Laura Katherine Van Voris and grandson William Johntz Van Voris; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Michael Berigan and Mary Agnes Cropley Berigan, and husband, Jean was predeceased by her brother, Michael Berigan; sister Vera Rabe; and Velma Van Voris, her sister-in-law.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jean’s family on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church, 54 Herrick Street, Rensselaer, NY 12144, beginning at 10:00 am. A funeral Mass will be held in the church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
