Mary Sanchez

Rensselaer - Mary J. Sanchez, beloved daughter of the late Daniel and Florence Burgey, was called home by Jesus on December 22, 2025, one day after celebrating her 99th birthday. She passed peacefully and is now reunited in heaven with her loving family members.

Born on December 21, 1926, in Ticonderoga, New York, Mary later met the love of her life, Daniel J. Sanchez. The two were married in April of 1947 and made their home in Rensselaer, where they raised their family. Daniel predeceased her in December of 1990.

Mary was the proud mother of eight children. She is survived by four of them: Sandra Collins; Frances (Les) Alberti; Michael (Patricia) Sanchez; and Beatrice Sanchez. She was predeceased by her children Daniel (Linda) Sanchez, Jr.; Thomas (Sandra) Sanchez; Mary (Charles Sr.) Bauer; and Victoria (Mark) Fluery.

Mary was also predeceased by her sisters, Beatrice Bentley and Patricia Burgey, and her brothers, Daniel Burgey and Lawrence Burgey.

She leaves behind a large and loving family, including 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

A devoted stay-at-home mother for most of her married life, Mary was known simply as "Mom" or "Gram" not only to her own children and grandchildren, but to countless friends who were welcomed into her home and heart. Her kindness, warmth, and unconditional love touched all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private for the family and will take place at a later date in New Rural Cemetery.
