East Nassau- Mark Andrew Schad, 77, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026 at his home.
Born on October 8, 1948 in Woodhaven, New York, Mark was the son of Edward and Margaret Schad. In his early childhood, the Schad family moved north to Schodack, New York, where Mark lived until he and his family moved to Nassau.
Mark was the beloved brother of Anne Warrington (Denis) and Peggy Grandy (Shawn) and uncle to Brian Warrington and his wife Jennifer, Kerry Warrington and Margaret Warrington. He was father to Dawn Chivers and Nikolaus Schad and grandfather to Conor and Megan Chivers. His grandniece and grandnephews include Lydia, Ethan, and Owen Warrington.
Mark graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush in 1966 and Hudson Valley Community College in 1968. Following his education, he served in the United States Navy from 1970-1972. He was a longtime employee of the New York Telephone Company as an engineer and a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers of America. He spent his retirement years as a much loved school bus driver for the East Greenbush Central School District.
An avid race car enthusiast, Mark was a drag race driver at Lebanon Valley for many years. He carried this passion with him throughout his life, spending much time going for long rides in his beloved cars and on his motorcycle, out in nature with close friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer.
