Albany-Marguerite T. "Nin" Eckert, age 95, passed peacefully on May 9, 2026, after a long period of declining health.
Nin was born in Rensselaer, New York in 1930 to Arthur and Elaine Forgea, joining a large and loving family. She was educated at St. John's Academy, Rensselaer and worshipped at the affiliated Church of St. John the Evangelist until her death.
Nin is survived by her son, Marty Barrington (Mary Devine); daughter, Maria Barrington (Christian Hummel); stepchildren Robert Eckert (Jody) and Lynn Laya (Phil); nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her sister, Eileen Pratt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings Roland, Raymond, Norman, Donald and Claire; husband J. Robert Eckert; son Patrick Barrington; and granddaughter Meghan MacKrell.
Nin was a devoted mother, grandmother and matriarch of her family, all of whom gratefully remember her guidance and deeply mourn her passing. She also was an accomplished business professional, most notably at the Albany Medical Center, where she was the long-time Director of Admissions, and later as the owner of LaTour Antiques. Nin also was a gifted painter, enthusiastic world traveler and eclectic reader.
Nin combined a strong, intelligent and independent personality with an easy laugh, welcoming way, generosity of spirit and deep Catholic faith. She made a million friends, many of whom remained so for more than eighty years.
The family is grateful to the Teresian House Center for the Elderly, who provided excellent and compassionate care to Nin over the last several years.
