Mabel L. Schillaci

Rensselaer-Mabel Schillaci (née LeBarron), beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center.

Born in Troy, New York, on February 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late George Dean LeBarron and Dorothy Brown LeBarron. Mabel was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School.

While working at the Watervliet Arsenal, Mabel met the love of her life, Anthony E. Schillaci, whom she later married in 2007. Together they shared many happy years filled with love, family, and friendship.

Mabel will be forever loved and remembered by her son, Edward D. Schillaci and his wife, Judith, of Rensselaer. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan LeBarron, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Anthony E. Schillaci; her brother, George LeBarron; and her sister, Mary Elsie Marpe.

Mabel's strong work ethic and caring spirit were evident throughout her life. She first worked at the Country Store in Eagle Bridge, New York, owned and operated by her mother. She later served as a bookkeeper for a local dairy before beginning her career at the Watervliet Arsenal, from which she and her husband eventually retired.

Following retirement, Mabel continued working part-time as a clerk at Cesta's Pharmacy. Beyond her professional life and devotion to raising her son, she generously gave her time to her community as a Cub Scout den mother and as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rensselaer.

Mabel and Anthony also enjoyed many wonderful years spending time at their second home in Sarasota, Florida, where they created countless treasured memories with friends and family.

A life well lived, Mabel leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush.
