Rensselaer - It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Kenneth H. Bloomer. He was born on April 19, 1960 to William and Margaret (Hermance) Bloomer. Ken was a lifelong resident of the city of Rensselaer where he was involved in many organizations throughout his life.
Although they went to school together, Ken reconnected with the love of his life, Liz Butler, in 1985. They were married on October 4, 1986 and spent 40 wonderful years together. Four years later, Ken’s truest pride and joy entered the world. Their daughter, Katie. Ken worshiped the ground that Liz and Katie walked and was their biggest supporter through everything in their lives.
Ken began working for the State of New York when he was 18 years old and continued until he retired in 2019. Upon retirement, Ken found his true calling in life when he became a substitute teacher’s aide at Rensselaer City School District, where he continued to work fulltime up until his untimely passing. Ken truly loved his position at Rensselaer and was known best for ensuring the safety of all those crossing the street at dismissal. The stop sign will never be the same.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Daniel, and sister, Karen, as well as many other family members from the Bloomer, Hermance, and Butler families.
In addition to his wife and daughter, those left to miss him include his nephews Scott (Tiffany) and Todd (Melanie) Bloomer; brothers in law Donny (Darlene) Butler, Wes Butler, and Bill Reimann; sisters in law PJ Bloomer, Linda Remington, Bonnie Butler, and Sharon Didonna, nephews Michael, Kris, Steven, Wes, Eric, Brad, and Craig; nieces Kim, Sharleen, Laura, Erin, Brooke, Brittany, Tiffany, and Helena; many great nieces and nephews from both the Butler and Bloomer families; as well as his fRAMily at Rensselaer City School District with whom he loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer on Saturday, May 10th from 2:00-5:00pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, May 12th at 12:30pm at The Parish of St. John the Evangelist & St. Joseph, 54 Herrick Street, Rensselaer with Fr. Sam Bellafiore officiating. Interment will follow in Brant Lake Cemetery, 6694 State Route 8, Brant Lake.
