Rensselaer- John Joseph Dana age 85 of Rensselaer passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. He was born in Albany on May 2, 1932 and resided in Albany, Selkirk and Rensselaer. Mr. Dana was retired from the NYS Education Department. John was honorably discharged in July 1957 from the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Okinawa and Japan. He was a member and Past Commander of the US Internal Revenue American Legion Post # 1750 in Albany. He was also a member of CSA Fraternal Life, Friends of the Rensselaer Library, Bethlehem Historical Society, The Sage Colleges Presidents Society and the Siena College Presidents Circle. He was an avid Siena Basketball and Notre Dame Football fan. Husband of Carol A. Hadley Dana whom he married on April 29, 1972 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar. Son of the late John and Theresa Pesnichak Dana who immigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1912. Uncle of Deborah E. Stahlman Jackson (Daniel L.), Susan B. Stahlman Rehder (Richard A.) and Charles H. Stahlman (Ellen M.). Great uncle of Zachary C. Stahlman. Brother of the late Emil Dana, Mary Dana and Joseph Dana. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Saturday morning at 8:30 and 9:30 at Sacred Heart Church 33 Walter Street Albany where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7PM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery Glenmont. Contributions in John's memory may be made to the Sacred Heart Restoration Fund, 33 Walter Street Albany, NY 12204 or the charity of your choice.
