Nassau-Joan B. Miller, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Evergreen Commons Nursing Facility, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Norwich, England, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Percy Lionel Dunn and Gertrude Hilda Dunn. She was a high school graduate and dedicated much of her working life to education and service. Joan was employed for many years at Questar BOCES as a teacher’s aide, where she was known for her kindness and commitment to helping children. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at Resurrection Nursing Home and volunteered at Doors of Hope reflecting her lifelong desire to care for others.

Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family and friends. She had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing, you could see her out on the Hudson, Striper fishing or on the boat catching perch at Lake Champlain, where she loved to camp. She also found great joy in music, particularly listening to Patsy Cline and The Bee Gees and always had everyone join in singing. Joan enjoyed traveling, with California and Catalina Island holding a special place in her heart.

She loved to cook and proudly shared her English traditions with those around her. Sausage rolls, jam tarts, beans on toast and the Sunday Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding were just a few of her favorites. For Christmas, she always had English Christmas crackers, and enjoyed watching everyone wear the little crown, tell the jokes and see what the little prizes were inside. An avid reader, you could find her curled up on the couch in the cold winter days with a good book, Jane Austin being one of her favorites. Joan also delighted in visiting garage sales in search of hidden treasures. Known for her warm spirit and great sense of humor, she had a gift for making others smile and truly lived life to the fullest.
