Jean M. McDermott

Rensselaer-Jean M. McDermott completed her journey on August 16, 20026 at her daughter's home on Stow Avenue in Troy with her daughter by her side. Jean, at 3lbs in birth, fought her way into life. She was a strong, dedicated women. Jean had a handicapped daughter, Sheila, who she worshipped and took care of for over 50 years, well into her 80's.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, William McDermott, her parents, Beatrice and Russell Roberts, her sisters Kay (Joe) Russo, Betty (James) Cicchelli and Charlene Barnard. She was also predeceased by her daughter Sheila McDermott, nephew Rusty DiNisio, great grandson Justin Denue and great great-grandson Zeek Denue.

Jean is survived and will be dearly missed by her children Laura (Jeff) Madden, Charlene (Wesley) Dobert, and William McDermott. Jean is also grandma to Jean (James) Vooris, Tammie Broadhead, Danielle (Bill) Lyle, Scott Denue, Sean McDermott, Billy McDermott, and Kyle McDermott. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, 11 great great-grandchildren and several wonderful nieces.

She will be missed by many.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Albany Hospice, Minister Ceylon, and nurses, Kalissa, Lori, Grace, Emily and staff.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 4-7pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral home service will follow at 7pm. Burial will be Monday, August 24, 2024, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 11:30am, where Jean and Sheila will be laid to rest alongside William.
