Rensselaer - James W. Kerr, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Born in Schenectady in 1957, he was the son of the late Mary (Hoffert) and John W. Kerr.

James was employed for many years as a bus driver with CDTA in Albany. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating with friends, and camping with his beloved wife, Kelly. James loved spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could and treasured the memories they created together. Known for his outgoing personality, he was often the life of the party and brought laughter and good times wherever he went.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Kelly M. (Pelton) Kerr; his son, David Kerr (Tiffany); and his adored grandchildren, Lliana, Damian, Genevieve, and David Jr. He is also survived by his siblings, John W. Kerr Jr. (Kathy), Thomas Kerr, Cathleen B. Kerr, Margaret M. Kerr, and Susan M. Kerr.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with James' family on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m.
