George E. Hollner, Jr.

Wynantskill- George E. Hollner Jr. of Wynantskill died peacefully in his home on August 6, 2021. He was born in Albany, NY on October 12, 1938 and was the youngest child of Catherine (Kelsch) and George E. Hollner Sr. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Tosti Hollner for 41 years. George was a 1956 graduate of Philip Schuyler High School in Albany and served in the U.S. Army for eight years. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and then started his 30 year career at AT&T. George was an avid bowler and won several awards including the 300 Magic Triangle Award, Albany Bowler of the Year in 1975-76 and was inducted into the Albany Bowlers Association Hall of Fame in 1987, some would call him a “bowling legend.” When George wasn’t bowling, he enjoyed golfing, skiing and spending time with his family in Myrtle Beach, SC and Killington, VT. George loved to make his grandchildren laugh. He would surprise them on Christmas dressed up as Santa, take them through haunted houses in his basement for Halloween and swim with them in his pool. George was known for his great sense of humor, his quick wit and incredible math skills. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his two children, Michael Hollner and Lisa Hollner; his sister, June Tallmadge; his stepchildren: Bo Weidman, Wendy (Arnie) Will, Cindy (Andrew) Flanagan and David (Pam) Weidman; his six grandchildren: Jeremy (Aly) Hollner, Kimberly (Austin) Moody, Kasey (Thomas) Dahlin, Meghan Flanagan, Morgan (Erik) Casparius and Jonathan Will. He was predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Frances Torre Hollner and his sister, Joan Pigeon Smith. George’s family would like to acknowledge how much we appreciate the exceptional care and support received from the hospice staff, Maria, Joe and Steve. A memorial service will be at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 9am. Interment will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery, 680 Delaware Ave., Albany.
