Saratoga Springs-Frederick G. White, 78, of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on December 22, 1946, in Saratoga Springs, Fred was the youngest of eight children of the late George E. and Isabelle (Hauerwas) White. A proud lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs, he graduated from Saratoga Springs High School before serving his country honorably as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam era.
Fred found joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He especially loved Saratoga in August. His love for his hometown never wavered.
Fred is survived by his beloved son Jonathan James White, daughter-in-law Nicole White, and cherished grandchildren Jacob and Emily White. He is also survived by his loving sister Dorothy (Tommy) Burns, niece Denise Shannon, many more nieces and nephews, and his former wife, Joan Gottwald, with whom he shared a lasting mutual respect.
Along with his parents, Fred was predeceased by his siblings George, Janice, Phil, Carol, John and Almeron.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM at St. Peter's Cemetery, 150 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, where he will be laid to rest in the White family plot.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
