Wynantskill - Edward D. "Ed" Jacobs, age 81, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Stratton VA Medical Center.
Born in Troy, Ed was the son of the late Mary (Crandall) and Edward J. Jacobs. He attended Troy High School before being drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served from 1965 to 1967. A proud veteran, he carried that service with him throughout his life.
Ed began his career at Matzen Construction. He later changed careers becoming a locksmith at J.P. Mangione Locksmith, where he affectionately earned the nickname "Jake." He retired in 2011 after 33 years of forming close bonds with his colleagues and customers alike.
After retirement, Ed found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren, helping to raise them and rarely missing a moment to watch them grow. Jake also enjoyed cruising and visiting casinos with his wife, Linda. A skilled woodworker and carpenter, he took pride in building furniture and assembling toys for his family. Ed was well known for his friendly nature, he could run into friends wherever he went. He was loved by all, with a contagious laugh, a love of dancing, and a patient, gentle spirit who loved to share his knowledge.
He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Linda L. (Gagnon) Jacobs; devoted father of Nerissa (Renato) Carbonaro; and proud grandfather of Gianni, Genevieve, and Giuseppe Carbonaro.
Ed is also survived by his siblings, Jean Johnson, Louis (Tina) Jacobs, Rita (Irv) Gray; his brother-in-law, Gilman Gagnon (the late Laura); his sister-in-law, Sandra Keeler (the late Robert); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Mertz (Tom survives) and brother Daniel Jacobs.
