Edward Hedman

Averill Park - Edward Hedman, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Albany Medical Center. He was the son of the late Harry and Marge (McCulley) Hedman.

Ed is survived by his wife, Linda Walko-Hedman; daughter, Catherine Hedman; son-in-law, Kent Ray; granddaughter, McKenzie Ray; niece, Marjorie Stuckle (Dave); and great niece, Melissa Wristley. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Sue McCurdy and brother, Robert Hedman.

Ed was raised on the family farm in Harpersfield, NY and graduated from Jefferson Central School. After farming for several years, Ed began an extensive career in trucking that enabled him to travel throughout the United States. He then applied his driving skills as a bus driver for the Averill Park Central School District.

Ed was a long-time horse owner and enjoyed vacationing at the equestrian campsites with his wife Linda and her grandchildren, Sean, Mikayla, Jess, and Sarah Rose Malenfant. He was a member of the Grafton Trail Riders and cherished the many friendships made over the years. Ed was extremely proud of his granddaughter, McKenzie, for her equestrian accomplishments. Ed also enjoyed hunting, watching westerns, rodeos, football, and joking around with everyone. In his younger years, Ed was also an accomplished drag racer at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ed's family from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave. Rensselaer, NY 12144. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
