Edward G. Fahrenkopf Sr., 86, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Born in Albany on September 14, 1938, Ed was the beloved husband of the late Eileen P. Fahrenkopf, with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2018.
Ed spent his career at the New York State Department of Transportation. A true outdoorsman, he loved hunting, golfing, and travel—especially family camping trips to Raquette Lake, where time spent around the campfire and playing games became lifelong memories. Ed enjoyed wintering at The Great Outdoors in Titusville, Florida, where he spent time golfing, hosting family, and spending time with friends.
He was the devoted father of Edward (Elizabeth) Fahrenkopf Jr., Michele (the late Howard) Miller, Kevin (Lori) Fahrenkopf, Lynne (Terry) Pominville, T.J. (Tracey) Fahrenkopf, and Kristie (Scott) Parr; and the proud grandfather of Matthew, Nolan, Zachary, Chris, Tim, Jessica, Sarah, Kevin, Logan, Ryan, Kate, Rachel, Cody, Dylan, Christopher, Anika, Erin, Tyler, Clay, and Derek. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, his brother Jim Fahrenkopf, his sister Mary Lou Tucker, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his mother Rita Fahrenkopf, father Nicholas Fahrenkopf Sr., and his brothers Nicholas Fahrenkopf Jr. and Robert Fahrenkopf.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at W.J. Lyons Funeral Home in Rensselaer, NY. A memorial service will follow on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in St. Henry’s Cemetery immediately following.
