Albany- Dorothea Dikas, 84 passed away at her home on Saturday,December 30,2017. She was born in Kalamata , Greece on May 6,1933 to Ourania and Panagiotis Papagiannis. She is predeceased by her husband, Takis Dikas, her siblings, George and Kalliopi, brother in law, Karafili,sister in laws Popi, and Zambelia,nephew Carlos and niece Mary. She is survived by her daughters, Maria and husband John, Betty and husband Alexi. She was blessed not only with her grandchildren Galinos and wife Vaso, Dorothea and husband Theodori, Michael and Kyle but also with great granddaughters, Twins, Isidora and Ioanna who now believe that their Giagia dodo is a star in the sky watching over them. She is also survived by brother in laws, John with wife Maria, Pericles and several nieces and nephews. She was educated at The Academia in Rhodes, Greece and married her beloved Takis in January of 1955. Her journey began when she sailed to Halifax, Nova Scotia accompanied by her brother in law John with final destination Montreal, Canada. She taught elementary school at St.George and Socrates Schools in Montreal and later at St George Orthodox Church, Greek afternoon school program in Schenectady. She strongly believed in the preservation of the Greek language and culture. Dorothea was proud of her Greek heritage. She also was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and director of the youth dance group. Dorothea was a woman of great strength and moral character. She enjoyed cooking, laundry, singing and dancing. Her life revolved around her family. Dorothea looked forward to her travels to Greece every summer. She could always be found enjoying coffee with old friends and family sitting on her balcony overlooking the ocean. She will be tremendously missed by her family and those she touched throughout her life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, January 4, 2018 10 am at St George Greek Orthodox Church 107 Clinton Avenue, Schenectady, N.Y. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery.
