Schodack - Benjamin Marra, P.E. LEED AP, age 53, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Born in Albany, New York, he was the son of Isidoro and Gail Marra.
He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree. He later graduated from SUNY Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Civil Engineering (Structural) with a minor in Mathematics. Ben dedicated his professional life to engineering and public service. His career included the following positions: Project Manager for Burt Crane & Rigging; Civil Engineer for L. Sipperly & Associates; Project Manager/Structural Engineer at CHA Consulting; Contractual Environmental Engineer at New York State Department for Environmental Conservation; Senior Manager/Structural Engineer and Team Leader Architectural/Site Group for New York State Office of General Services; Director of Facilities for the City of Albany School District; and most recently, Associate Project Coordinator for SUNY Construction Fund. He was also the owner of his own firm, Marra Engineering PLLC.
Outside of work, Ben enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Outer Banks, and listening to country music. He was an accomplished skier and tennis player. Above all, Ben cherished time spent with his sons, especially watching Ben play basketball and Luc play guitar.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shana (Salecker) Marra. He is survived by his parents Isidoro and Gail Marra; his two sons Benjamin "Ben" and Luciano "Luc" Marra; his siblings; Nicolino "Nic" Marra (Jenét), Caterina "Cathy" Marra and Giuseppe "Joey" Marra; his father-in-law Anton Salecker and mother-in-law Barbara Salecker; his brother-in-law Anton Salecker (Aimee); nieces Gianna Marra, Charisma Salecker and nephew Maxilium "Maxie" Marra; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 4-7pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. Funeral from the funeral home on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 9:00 am and 10 am at the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Burial will immediately follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
